The building first opened its doors to the public in 2014, and its location immediately adjacent to the Tower of London has made it a firm favourite for visitors looking to explore this vibrant and ever-changing area. The design of the building acknowledges the site’s original use as a set of docks for unloading tobacco and other cargo arriving from the West Indies. In contrast to the relative calm of the River Thames we experience today, as recently as the mid-20th century this was a busy industrial area.
